The National Steering Committee (NSC) of FAITH in Ghana Alliance (FIGA) held its bi-monthly meeting at the Conference Room of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference at the National Catholic Secretariat in Accra on Tuesday 10th October 2023. Representatives of the following Member Faith-Based Organizations attended: Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission (AMM), Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Ghana (FOMWAG), Caritas Ghana, Office of the National Chief Imam (ONCI) and Marshallan Relief and Development Services (MAREDES).

With the facilitation of its National Chairperson, Hajia Ayishetu Abdul-Kadiri, the meeting reviewed networking and solidarity programmes organized by the respective Member Organisations with the full participation of FIGA.

For 2024, the NSC committed to building on progress being made on grassroots Multifaith Organizing with the establishment of Community FAITH Alliances! A National Consultative meeting of leaders of diverse Faith Traditions in Ghana is being planned for late February or early March to discuss how Faith-Based Organizations can engage effectively with the 2024 General Elections to enhance civic participation and peace. STAR Ghana Foundation, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Electoral Commission (EC) have been identified as key stakeholders to participate in the National Faith Leaders’ Consultative meeting to build consensus on strategic entry points for Faith-Based Organizations to ensure successful General Elections in 2024.
Pope Francis’ Call for Action on the Climate Crisis in the recent Apostolic Exhortation, LAUDATE DEUM, also got the attention of the Multifaith Network Leaders. When paragraph #61 of Laudate Deum was read out to the meeting, the NSC committed the FAITH in Ghana Alliance to responding positively to the Holy Father’s appeal for all Faith Traditions to unite according to their faith for this cause. The Chairperson, a Muslim Woman, challenged Catholic Entities to play a proactive role in leadership and in welcoming FIGA’s commitment to respond to the Pope’s Call for Action in Laudate Deum.

Members of FIGA’s National Steering Committee met Sir Samuel Zan Akologo, KSG for the first time since his Papal Knighthood in the Order of Saint Gregory the Great and expressed spontaneous solidarity and joy at the honour done to FIGA’s Volunteer National Coordinator. Members are also joyfully expecting the participation of Faith in Action International at the upcoming Annual Learning Festival in early November of both Regional and Community Leaders involved in grassroots Multifaith Organizing.
